Wetland and Stream Scientist

Wetland Services, Inc. is an environmental restoration and consulting firm serving Kentucky, Indiana, & Illinois. We are currently seeking a full time Stream and Wetland Field Scientist. The position is located in Henderson, KY.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Natural Resources, Environmental sciences or closely related field. Required experience for the position is zero to five years. A valid Driver’s License is required.

Primary responsibilities will include stream and wetland mitigation monitoring, jurisdictional water determinations, water quality monitoring, Real Time Kinematic (RTK) surveying and associated computer-aided design (CAD), ArcGIS mapping and report writing. Additional duties may include tasks associated with stream and wetland restoration design, construction and maintenance. The applicant does not need to be experienced in all fields. Wetland Services is willing to train and develop a motivated candidate.

Preferred knowledge and skills include:

  • Wetland delineation utilizing the ’87 Manual and Regional Supplements.
  • Stream assessment utilizing Rosgen and EPA RBP methods.
  • RTK and Trimble GPS surveying.
  • AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
  • Natural stream channel design principles.
  • Midwest and Southeast plant ID.
  • Soil classification.
  • Aquatic macroinvertebrate and fish sampling.
  • Invasive species management.
  • Experience operating vehicles with trailers and farm equipment.
  • Project management

The successful applicant will have good communication skills, be able to follow concise instruction and have initiative to complete tasks on their own. Attention to detail is critical.

This job requires periodic overnight travel and long day trips into remote areas. It requires the physical ability to traverse difficult terrain on foot, by atv or watercraft, and navigate via GPS, aerial photos & maps in all weather conditions. The job requires the ability to complete occasional tasks associated with manual labor and lifting/moving heavy objects.

Wetland Services offers our clients a full range of services associated with Clean Water Act Permitting and Environmental Restoration. Services include: remote sensing, wetland delineation, stream assessment, aquatic bioassessment & water quality monitoring, T&E surveys, 401/404 permitting, mitigation planning & construction and mitigation monitoring & maintenance. Periodic presentations at conferences and community events may be required. Cross-training in other departments is available.
